Though our cruise arrived around noon and we had no choice but to visit Ephesus under the hot summer sun, our guide Banu did her best to move us through briskly while seeing the major sites. Much was familiar after having seen Pompeii, but it was worthwhile nonetheless. Seeing the construction of the archaeological site around the Terrace Houses was especially fascinating.
I had hoped to visit the site of the Seven Sleepers but was discouraged from going by our guide. We did see the Isa Bey Mosque, a unique mosque that was originally the site of a Roman temple.
Afterwards we enjoyed a nice lunch at the rug cooperative. This was followed by an educational presentation on how the rugs are handcrafted. Though we did not purchase any rugs, the salesman Murat was courteous and had excellent English. "
